21-April-1967: Dodger Stadium’s First Rainout

Since Dodger Stadium opened in 1962, Southern California has seen:

Sports Champions

Lakers (11), Dodgers (4), Galaxy (4), Angels (1), Ducks (1), Kings (1)  and Raiders (1)

World Series Home Games at Dodger Stadium

Sigificant Earthquakes

BUT ONLY . . .

Rain Outs at Dodger Stadium

The first rain out occurred  on this day in 1967 ending a 737-game streak without a postponement.

This day in 1988 was also a washout – the third in a row – the only time it has happened and ironically it was against another fellow Southern Californian team – the San Diego Padres..  That was followed by a 856-game streak which is/was a Major League Record that ended on April 11, 1999.

That record may be history since as best I can tell there has not been a rainout in Dodgerland since April 17, 2000.

You are more likely to see Purple Rain than Dodger-rain.
