Giving a Dynasty Its Due

 GIVING A DYNASTY ITS DUE

nba1Phil Jackson said he did not think the Spurs were a dynasty because they never won consecutive titles (as his Bulls and Lakers did, but Knicks did not). Consider this Mr. Jackson:

  • ONLY ONE BEHIND MICHAEL

A victory on Sunday night gives the San Antonio Spurs and Tim Duncan their 5th NBA Title which is more than any NBA team except the Celtics (17), Lakers (16) and Bulls (6).

  • DUNCAN’S SPURS OUTPERFORMS MOST FRANCHISES

Since Tim Duncan joined the Spurs they have won or been on pace to win (in strike shortened seasons) 50 games every season.  Only the Lakers (32), Celtics (31), Spurs (26) and the Phoenix Suns (19) have had more 50 game seasons than Tim Duncan.

  • TIED BIRD-PARISH-MCHALE FOR LONGEVITY

Since Tony Parker and Manu Binobili were added, the team has had a run comparable to recent great dynasties and one of the longest – 12 years which is equal to the Bird-Parish-McHale dynasty and exceeds Magic-Kareem (10), Jordan-Pippen (9) and Kobe-Shaq (7).

In terms of WINS, WIN PCT and even TITLES the results speak for themselves – the Spurs are in the same league as the other recent elite dynasties.
