IT was not even for the championship.

IT remains one of the top 5 NBA playoff moments of all time.

IT is ranked 8th on RealClearSports Top 10 Sports Broadcasting Calls

IT happened 50 years ago tonight . . . WHEN HAVLICEK STOLE THE BALL

From NBA.com:

It is the most famous radio call in basketball history, hoops’ equivalent to Russ Hodges’ famed “The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!” from baseball’s 1951 National League playoffs. There simply is nothing like the gravelly tones of the late Celtics broadcaster Johnny Most describing the closing seconds of Game 7 of the 1965 Eastern Conference Finals between the defending champion Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Celtics celebrated the anniversary with Hondo last night at Boston Garden.

The win sent the Celtics to the NBA Finals – their 9th straight.  The Celtics beat the Lakers for the 3rd time in 4 years and won their 7th consecutive NBA title.

. . . oh, in case you are curious, the #4 NBA Playoff Moment of all time is . . . . Bird stole the ball.  Which also helped set up another return trip to the NBA Finals against the Lakers.
