MLS Cup – Columbus Faces Portland on Home Turf

Sunday at 4PM Eastern the Columbus Crew will host the Portland Timbers for the 2015 MLS Cup.

Columbus is a charter member of the MLS and winner of the 2008 MLS Cup.  The Crew will be the 7th team to seek the Cup from their home turf – MAPFRE Stadium. Only the hard luck New England Revolution failed to win on their home turn in 2002, when they lost to the Los Angeles Galaxy 1-0 in overtime.

Portland is only in their fifth MLS season but are among the top teams in attendance.  The Timbers will be seeking the city’s first championship since Blazermania in 1978.  While the Crew’s lone championship is only Ohio’s second championship since the days of the Big Red Machine (the other being the Reds upset of the Oakland A’s in the 1990 World Series).
