Bengals Choke in Front of Classless Fans
Flashback to Week 10
The Bengals were 8-0 for the first time in franchise history, including come from behind wins against Pittsburgh, Seattle and Baltimore. This is not an ordinary occurrence, as the Bengals have won 8 or less games in 71% of its 48 seasons
Yet, as the team falls behind by a mere 4 points early in the fourth quarter, the Bengal faithful boo their undefeated team. That’s right, a team that as recently as 2010 had missed the playoffs 18 out of 20 seasons, was booing a team that would tie a franchise record for wins. As someone living in Southern California, I thought the league should have packed up the team and moved it to Los Angeles or anywhere the next day.
Bengals Win No Class Bowl
The Bengals finished the season 12-4, a feat accomplished only by the two prior Bengal Super Bowl teams (1981, 1988), and faced their hated rival – the Pittsburgh Steelers in tonight’s wild card game. The Bengals’ fans stooped even lower, cheering Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s injury and then throwing garbage at him as he was carted off the field.
The Football Gods returned the favor as the Bengals snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. With the game all but decided and needing only to run out the clock, the Bengals Jeremy Hill fumbled to give the Steelers one last chance.
With the Steelers struggling to get into field position, Vontaze Burfict, a player with a track record of dirty play dating back to college, all but handed the victory to the Pittsburgh with this cheap shot to the head of Antonio Brown.
The ensuing penalty, along with another personal foul penalty, set up the winning field goal for the Steelers. The Bengals were one and done for the 5th straight post-season but the team and their fans were decisive victors in the No Class Bowl. On behalf of football fans everywhere – you both suck.
